I recently purchased an ASUS EN8400GS to replace my dead EVGA GF6200 128MB. I installed it and its software but cannot get it to work correctly on my standard cable ready tv like to old card did.

I noticed in the specs of the ASUS (after purchasing) that it looks like it is designed for an HD setup. I have a standard tv. Can someone verify this could be the problem?

The problem is that when the card gets past the Windows splash screen (when hooked up to the television), I get no video. I'm assuming that it has to do with it being an HD card. If this all sounds like nonsense, please let me know. I am a relative novice at all this and may have made a novice mistake.

If the problem is due to it being an HD card, what card should I get?

I assume you are using an Svideo or RCA connection from the video card. If you see the splash screen then you should see the desktop. Is this the case? Is is just playing video that you can't see?

I was originally using an RCA to S-video cable prior to the death of my first video card. I then purchased an S-video to S-video cable for troubleshooting.
I see the POST screen, but after that, the video is extremely choppy for a second or two and then nothing. I can barely recognize the splash screen for the few seconds it is there.

This is all just nonsense!! Just kidding. I do have a couple of questions though.

How is the videocard connnected to the tv? Do you have another monitor hooked up to the card as well, or is it just the tv? Have you tried it with a monitor and if so did it work? Do you have a link to your card?

Your new card doesn't support Svideo. You will need to exchange it for one that does.

The video card is currently connected to the tv with the s-video cable. I do have a monitor next to the pvr that I use for troubleshooting. When connected to that, it displays just fine.

Craig may be right that it doesn't support s-video. Do you have a link to your card? Also can you hook up both the monitor and the tv so we can get to the Windows screen and see if we can connect it that way?

I tried the card with the s-video (I'm assuming that's what you call the round 4 pin connector on the back of the video card) to rca cable and had the same results.

If Craig's right that won't matter. Any word on the link to that card?

He is confident I'll give him that much. Wink And it's true, a lot of the time a port that looks like s-video is on the back of videocards, but it's actually a "break-out" port that lets you connect a dongle. This dongle usually supports s-video though. That's why I wanted to look up your card.

Damn! I was looking at a different ASUS EN8400GS and that one didn't support Svideo. Go figure. I blame the bouncing boobies for distracting me.
