I have MCE 2005 and Happauge 500. I cannot seem to get it to record and let me watch another channel...  if I change the channel, the recording follows  it.

I have it hooked up to one Set Top Box (digital cable)... am I doing something wrong.. or is it that i need a second set top box... ??
If so .. where the hell do I hook it up to on the Happauge 500 ? It only takes 1 Cable connection ??

Help

the cable box does the tuning, so you would need a second box. All the PVR-500 is doing in this case is capturing what the cable feeds to it. You can get the second set of inputs for a second cable box here: http://www.pcalchemy.com/product_info.php/pName/hauppauge-av-cable-set-for-pvr150-250-350-500/cName/pvr-cardstv-tuners

For more about using digital cable see here: http://www.diy-pvr-dvr-htpc.com/index.php/125_Channel_Tuner_Digital_Cable

Ok.. got ya.

I looked at the extension device.. but shouldnt it have BNC type connection for Cable input instead of RCA ?

Sorta like the 500 Card interface... ??

Your thoughts...
Are you sure you’re using the right connectors on the pvr-500 card? Huh
You said you have digital cable. You should be connecting the Svideo-out & the audio-out from your cable box into the Svideo-in & RCA stereo-in of the pvr-500 card.

You shouldn’t be using the F-connector (coax) at all.
The extension card that SpHeRe31459 linked has a second pair of Svideo/composite-input jacks for your second digital STB.

Also, how are you changing channels? Are you using the IR blaster that is part of the MCE remote control package?
===
By the way, if you also have analog out of that cable of yours, you could use the coax connector on the pvr-500 along with the Svideo port that is connected to your digital STB.
