PVR-150 IR Blaster works with LIRC?
«
on:

I found this on the LIRC mailing list:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=7912833&forum_id=5339
Has anybody else tried this? I am going to give it a shot but I wanted to see how other people did with it. Does it work with versions other than 0.7.2-pre2? Also, if anybody has hacked the Gentoo ebuild to use it, that would also be helpful experience for me.

I have no idea but thanks so much for calling this to my attention! I imagine if it's solid it'll make it to the main release eventually (?)

Updated. Fixed some weird bug. Still doesn't work for me. Even though I can get the blaster blinking, it won't affect my cable box. Works with the windows drivers though, so I don't know what's up.

Awesome! any pointers or just the code/instructions from the blog? Has the changes/tweaks made it into the main branch of lirc or is it just a script/config file specific for the pvr150?

Blerghass,
i am curious too. are the instructions on your blog complete? have they been merge in the driver? i will attempt this also. using Gentoo also, would love to get this to work.
another question are you using the portage overlay to patch the ivtv drivers. would you be able to shed some light on this, as i have not used the portage overlay much.
thanks for all the great work!

Just to clarify, I did not write any drivers. Mark, who writes the blog and the drivers, is responsible. In order to make it work, I had to make a little custom ebuild. I started with the ivtv 0.3.7c ebuild that is currently hardmasked and put an epatch line in there. I put the patch and the ebuild in the right places in the portage overlay and it built. I did the same with lirc. Eventually I made it work. I would recommend making it work in Windows before attempting to use Mark's driver, because if it doesn't work in Windows it won't work with Mark's stuff. Mark's instructions are pretty good, and I just had to look at some general Gentoo reference pages to make it work with Gentoo. Let me know if you want me to tar up the overlay and send it to you.

I would love a copy of your custom ebuilds. How could I get those from you?
Much appreciated,
Jake

My ebuilds are a little bit dated now, but I can e-mail them to you if that works.

Just to rehash this topic - I found instructions and a few folks who have the pvr-150 IR Blaster working with knoppmyth. You can see the progress here:
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6206&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
Personally, this is what I was waiting for - looks like I need to try mythtv one more time. I have been using GBPVR and have been somewhat satisfied as I am in Canada and have never seen an actuall Tivo. Over the christmas Holidays I went to California for 2 weeks and stayed with relatives, who had a Directv/tivo combo STB - man that was nice.... way better than what I'm getting out of GBPVR. When I ran mythtv before it worked really well, I just had no blaster support. Fingers crossed.

Don't forget the write-up that recently appeared on
www.osnews.com
:
How to Configure, Use LIRC
Linked by Thom Holwerda on 2006-01-10 15:09:08 UTC, submitted by raoulsland
"LIRC is basically a small server which can decode or transmit infra-red signals. This is a tutorial about how to set up the LIRC server and how to use it in order to control your system or specific LIRC-enabled applications with a remote control. Examples of simple or more complicated setups are also provided."
The URL the artical points to is:
http://www.raoul.shacknet.nu/2006/01/10/how-to-configure-and-use-lirc/
I didn't read it fully yet, but it looks like a pretty complete write-up.

Just to confirm this, I installed Knoppmyth and followed the instructions on the link I provided (From the configuration of the IR Blaster onwards as all the modules are now included in r5a30.1) and this works really well! There seems to be a bug where the remote for the PVR 150 stops responding but it can be over come with a small cron job for now. The devels are looking at having this fixed in the next version....
So, I'm happy to report my Myth Box is up and running and I'm very happy with it, way happier than I was with GBPVR - web scheduling, web streaming of recordings, frontends with next to no hassle, recording schedules that don't mysteriously dissapear, a readable OSD, decent themes, above average commercial detection... it's totall bliss! I finally arrived in HTPC/PVR Heaven
