Since I don't have cable TV, and stations come from two different directions, the antenna rotator was a necessity!

Hardware:
Homebuilt 1600MHz Duron on ECS K7S52A mobo  640MB RAM
60GB HDD for system files, and 200GB for videos only
Two other servers on network to hold pictures and music.
Hauppauge PVR-150MCE tuner card(Recieves and encodes analog TV, and captures video from Digital STB below)
USB-UIRT (Sends IR commands to rotator and digital STB)
Channelmaster 9521 antenna rotator (Rotates antenna to directions preset for each channel)
Samsung SIR-T150 DIgital set top box (Recieves Digital TV and outputs to S-video)
2X Hauppauge MediaMVP D3A, one in living room and one in bedroom

Software:

GBPVR, with PlainJane and UbuStream plugins
Girder (This was needed for the programming flexibility to access secondary digital channels, since the STB needed "up arrow" command to get to -2 and -3 channels)
VLC (used to capture and transcode streaming internet video)
Folding@Home

What it does:
Records, plays, time shifts analog or digital TV
Rotates antenna automatically for the station being watched or recorded
Stays completely silent, since the server is in the computer room and only the MediaMVP is in the bedroom and Living rooms.
Plays internet videostreams, Webcams, YouTube videos on TVs
Cleans out commercials from recorded shows
Views picture slide shows, plays music library
Views Weather reports, movie theater listings, Rss Newsfeeds,
Has highly adjustable skin appearance
Cures diseases in it's spare time
All of above sitting on the couch using remote.

And the Wife uses it.

Nice job there... besides smooth functionality, the fact that she uses it too says it all. My wife still call it "that thing. Grin mmmmbeeer"

Helllo,

it looks like you have a great setup!

I recently purchased a Samsung SIR-T451 HDTV ATSC receiver tuner and have found that it will not work with the EPG on my ReplayTV 5500 series DVR. I can get the DVR to change channels on the HDTV tuner but the EPG doesn't correspond with the digital channels (as i have to use an EPG for a cable company)

So, with all of that said (sorry), how exactly does your USB-UIRT interact with software to handle switching the channels on your Samsung box? So for instance, I am browsing the channel guide on the software that came with the PVR-150, and i tell it to record 24 on Monday night, will the PVR software talk to the USB-UIRT box and tell it to change the channel on the Samsung hdtv box at the correct time?

If that is a correct interpretation of what you are doing, is there any additional software i have to purchase in order to just make the PVR program switch channels on the hdtv box at the scheduled record time?

If i have mis-understood your setup, can you please correct me where i have mis-understood?

Thanks so much for sharing your idea.

Will

I think the key here is which EPG you use. If you use the EPG from your cable company your stuck recording shows they know about. However if you have a pvr with your own pvr program (like GBPVR above) then you can setup your own EPG and that will then control the USB-UIRT and switch to the correct channel.

So, with all of that said (sorry), how exactly does your USB-UIRT interact with software to handle switching the channels on your Samsung box?

GBPVR allows the use of external channel changer programs, and external recorder programs.

I have three capture sources defined in GBPVR: Analog broadcast, Digital Broadcast, and Webcast.

Analog: Uses zap2it for program guide information, line up has only local analog stations in it.
-Records from the PVR-150 analog tuner directly.
-Channel changer is GBPVRs built-in USB-UIRT tuner, which sends commands to the rotator. (rotator is has presets programmed for the best position for each station

Digital:  Uses a different Zap2it lineup, with only digital stations listed.
- Records from PVR-150, but from the s-video port instead of the tuner.
- Channel changer is a bit tricky...
Channel numbers are settable in GBPVR, so Iv'e set new channel numbers to include the sub channels, i.e. channel 52-1 is numbered 521, 52-2 is 522, etc.
Channel changer is set to an external program, csevent.exe, which creates a system event that triggers Girder. The event is named GB-521, or GB-522, or whatever the channel number is.
Girder is running in the background, waiting for events.  When Girder sees event GB-522 for instance, it tells the USB-UIRT to transmit "52" to the rotator, and then transmit "52" to the SIR-T150 Digital Reciever, then Transmit "^" to the digital receiver (since "^" is the only way to access sub-channel 2).
WebCast: HAs no Program guide, (yet)
(no channel changer required)
Using another External recorder, and a plugin, I get a variety of Streaming video channels on my TV. Too complex to describe from memory...

So for instance, I am browsing the channel guide on the software that came with the PVR-150, and i tell it to record 24 on Monday night, will the PVR software talk to the USB-UIRT box and tell it to change the channel on the Samsung hdtv box at the correct time?

Like miller posted, it has to do with the software. Mine works just like you imagine..at 1 minute before 12:00 midnight every night, the antenna swings west, the set top box tunes to the channel I want, and the recorder records "Charlie Rose". If you want "24", just highlight it in the program guide (or have GBPVR search for it), and tell it to record.  Just Once, Daily, weekly, or every time "24" is broadcast.

If that is a correct interpretation of what you are doing, is there any additional software i have to purchase in order to just make the PVR program switch channels on the hdtv box at the scheduled record time?

I purchased Girder, only because of the additional complexity the antenna rotator gave me.  There is Freeware called HIP that may be able to do what you need.
GBPVR is free (as in beer Grin)
