no analog channels found on my hauppauge 1600

Hi
I got a new hauppauge 1600. Seem to install fine. I'm Using winTV to scan for channels and am not getting any.
I tested the cable. I don't have a cable box yet. Just bought one so I hope having a cable box will solve it.
Anyone else get no analog channels come up on there 1600?
anything i can try to get some channels?
thanks
Jason

Make sure you have the cable connected into the correct input. NOT the antenna and NOT the FM.

It should find the analog channels easier without the cable box. The only thing I can think of would be you have it in the wrong plug as craigap says. It needs to be the top coax jack in this pic.

It could be. Did you download the software from here?
http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/support_hvr1600.html
Here's the direct link for the download:
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/install_cd/hauppauge_cd_3.4d1.zip
Just install everything listed there. Make sure you run the hcwclear program first. This will clean out any old Hauppauge programs/drivers/etc before you start.

thanks for your help but still no analog channels found.
I'll try it with our cable box when it comes.
I'll give Hauppauge a call too.

And you know the cable feed works right? What kind of cable do you have?

Jason,
I know this may be a stupid question, but no one has asked this yet. What channels does your TV have, when you plug that same coax wire directly into the TV? Do you see any?
I only ask, as some cable/satellite/fiber providers do not actually provide any analog channels; as providers seam to be dumping analog channel support, in favor of a pure digital channel line-up.
As such, you may simply be looking for something that is not there to start with.
And if you know you should get X analog channels, this will help tell if the issue is with the actual coax you are using (as it the analog channels may work in one room, but the wire may be damaged or somehow disconnected in another room).
This of course is just my 2 cents...

we get channels 1-76 basically.
we tested the cable on a tv.
We live in Hawaii too and we just bought a cable box on ebay but it's zoned for LA. Does anyone know how to reprogram it to work in Hawaii?
thanks guys

I don't think the cable box is going to help you. To work with your local cable company it has to be able to decrypt there video feeds. Unless the cable company is willing to help you do that you're probably out of luck.
As for channels 2-76, if you got these by just plugging the cable straight from the wall into the tv (which it sounds like you did), then you should also be able to record these shows using your tuner card.
So now I'm thinking you might just have a bad card. Your problem sounds like the card isn't getting signal. This usually means either there is no signal (you have signal verified with your tv), or you have it in the wrong input (you checked the diagram to make sure it was in the right input), or you have a bad install (you did a reinstall already). Since it's none of those I think your best bet is calling Hauppauge and getting a replacement. The 1600 is a good card, but I suppose like anything you get bad ones every now and then.
