I was looking on pcalchemy.com and i have always wanted the iMon remote because i've read it can control the mouse in windows. I've read it's like a joystick action. I was wonding if this remote would work with an IR reciever that would come in any case or does it have to have it's receiver. also does anyone know if the 2.4ghz iMon remote works the same as it's ir cousin to control the mouse in windows. because this would solve the IR problem.

also looking at cases is there any drawback to picking a case thats micro ATX? Don't you usually get less slots with a micro atx board? I was leaning more toward a case that was ATX.

In case this helps, I use the iMon Inside remote with my PVR.  It has its own receiver and does not replace your other remotes.

But it has its own abilities.
1 - it can be used in replacement of a mouse
2 - it has a virtual keyboard, which you can be used with just about any app.
3 - you can configure the iMon remote to be used with just about any app, by mapping its buttons to keyboard shortcuts in your app.
4 - the iMon Inside receiver can pick-up IR signals from most other remotes, so you do #3 using other remotes you may have on hand.
5 - it comes with all apps/ways to using it, but I don't use them currently.

Hope this helps you out a little.

Yes that does help. My only problem is that i cannot find a HTPC case that has an open bay for the iMon receiver, and most of them come with their owv VFD's and ir receivers, soi was wondering if it's common for any remote to work with the ones supplied with the case. I know most of them come with MCE remotes. any ideas?

You can also go with the Gyration remote which also replaces the mouse via RF. Instead of needing an ir receiver it just uses a little usb RF one that can be put anywhere on your case (since it doesn't have to worry about line of sight) the Gyration one has an IR transmitter in it as well and can be used as a universal remote for your other equipment. It's a pretty sweet little unit. I'm using it right now actually.  Grin

Yeah, Gyration products are sweet.  I have their Gyration Ultra keyboard/mouse kit & use it all the time.  If you are looking to go USB and don't need IR/line of sight, then Gyration is great.  RF is a nice solution, when the need arises.
