Is it bad that I had to re-read the post 2 more times to figure out what all the "haw-pawg" "ho-page" talk was about. I got it now.

My 2cents: Hauppauge= Ha-Paw-Gee

Oh well.  :)

Edit: Ok, so it wasn't this post I was re-reading, just the original post.  :)

This was starting to take a life of it's own in another thread, so thought others might want to weigh in:

I pronounce it:  Haw Pawg

The rigth accurate pronounce for Hauppauge, Hauppauge is a town in NY on Long Island. Hauppauge is pronounced HOP-HOG. The area around the headwaters of the Nissequogue (NISS-I-QUOG) River was dubbed Hauppauge by Native Americans; it means "overflowed land'' in the Algonquian language. Hauppauge boasts a large industrial park which is home to many well known companies.

it sorta kills the thread to know the official pronounciation... was more fun to see the guesses ;)

I didn't realize they were on long island... for some reason I always assumed upstate NY... I wonder if I can get a factory tour!

Correct, it is `HOP-HOG`.  Since I work in for an IT/ecommerce company here in Hauppauge, so I have to know how to say it when a customer asks...  ;)
Besides Hauppauge Computer Works, there are also other tech companies that reside near by:

For example:
-- Hauppauge Computer Works, Inc. (the reason for this thread - is a 5 miles from my office)
-- Computer Associates (is 1 mile from my office)
-- Symbol Technologies (which is 7 miles from my office, but less then 4 miles from my home)

Personally, I never realized how many tech companies there were on the island until I moved futher east, away from the city.

What tech companies are near any of you? (say under 10 miles from your home or place of work)
New PVR: Intel D945GCLF2 [Atom 330], 2GB RAM RAM, 1TB SATAII HD, Hauppauge HVR1600, Lite-On 20X DVDRW, Small Mini-ITX case, Hauppauge MCE IR Remote/Blaster, DirecTV D12-500 STB -- Windows XP SP3, GBPVR v1.4.7, Official Hauppauge drivers & Intervideo Decoder, IR Server Suite, Wireless MediaMVP (for TV in bedroom).

Old PVR: Epia SP1300, 1GB DDR400 RAM, 100GB IDE HD (for OS), 2 - 500GB SATAII HD [1TB - RAID 0] (for PVR data), Hauppauge PVR500, Sony DL 16X +/- RW DVD, Morex 668 case, iMON Inside IR Remote, Hauppauge MCE IR Blaster w/FIOS settop box -- with Epia Bios v1.06 (BETA1), Windows XP SP3, GBPVR v1.3.11, Official Hauppauge PVR500 drivers, Cyberlink 8 Decoder, IR Server Suite.

Is Pfizer considered a tech company?  CSC... General Dynamics?

Being a ridge-runner an all... I was pronouncing it "Ho Po"....then my youngest grandson (age 5 1/2 ) was watching me install the Haugpauge 500 card in the computer and asked me what I was doing. I told him I was installing a "Ho Po" card so we could record  TV shows on the computer... and less than 30 mins. later he was asking HerSelf , " Gram-ah, can we watch the " Po Ho Show " now ?" :o

...... an I'm thinkin' to meself, Self.... that would make a great "TV reality show"..... bound to be better than "Dancing With The Stars" ;D
